Pastoral Thought: As we have gone through these days, and through the book of Philippians, I cannot get out of my head how similar the two situations are. The Philippi-ans have been living in a time where things seem well beyond their control and they appeared to be grasping at anything. But Paul reminds them of the way of Christ, humility and service, regardless of what happens with Nero and the Roman Government, or who the Plague takes or whatnot. His mes-sage, again, is clear, follow the way and example of Christ Jesus our Lord. Do not be afraid of the world, but instead live a life worthy of the Gospel. In doing so, those who preach against Christianity will be shown to be fool-ish. Rather than the Christians look as though they do not believe all that Jesus taught them. Remember, you are a member of a different kingdom, yes, you have citizenship in the United States, and that is good, but that citizenship is fleeting, citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven is forever. Lean into that citizenship and whatever happens to your Earthly Status will not matter.
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all
your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
